I have a Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N95 which I have modded and hacked up to the hilt with everything I want it to do. I use it all too, so it isn't just a waste of money in my pocket. It is well used and abused, from the Wi-Fi, through the GPS, the Gravity Sensor and the Camera. The wife however has a pants phone, and that was second hand when it came.
Needless to say, now it is time for me to treat her to something a little more upmarket. I am looking at getting her an iPhone, and maybe myself funds permitting. I want to join the 3 network. I have been on O2 (NYSE: TEF) for quite some time, but the coverage in my new hometown is weak. The free Skype-to-Skype calls on 3 is tempting.
With free Internet Allowance (3G Packet Data I assume) it has free Skype. So is every Java Enabled phone compatible with Skype? My assumptions lead me to think that the only reason Skype Calls are free on 3 is due to the Internet Allowance being free. Skype would use this connection to the net for it to function, so it is only based on the Sim Cards access to the internet and not to a designated 3 Skype mobile.
I certainly do NOT want to buy a half-arsed phone in lieu of an iPhone for he just to get Skype.
So, are my assumptions correct? Any Java Enabled mobile can run Skype??
